FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT LIFE COACHING

What is life coaching?  As per the International Coach Federation -

“Coaching is an ongoing partnership that helps clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Through the process of coaching clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and enhance their quality of life. Beginning with the client’s desires, coaches use reporting, exploring, and a consistent commitment to move the client forward. Coaching accelerates the client’s progress by providing greater focus and awareness of choice.  Coaches concentrate on where clients are today and what they are willing to do to get them where they want to be tomorrow.

So what do Life Coaches do?

A life coach is someone who will support and encourage you in achieving a predetermined goal or goals. They do not give advice, or offer therapy.  Just as in a sporting arena the coach is there to push you, encourage you and motivate you into action. They will keep you focused on your desired outcome whilst also challenging some of your long held beliefs about yourself.  They are there to guide you and help you develop so that you become newly empowered to reach beyond your previous expectations.

Why do I need a life coach?

A life coach can offer a detached view of your circumstances and new perspectives on old situations.  They will work closely with you to establish what your real motivations are and how best to achieve balance and improvement in the area that you are working on.  They will help you stick to your goals and get results faster and easier than you would on your own.

Is life coaching like therapy?

Life coaching is different to other therapies like counselling or psychotherapy in the way that it deals with what is happening in your life NOW, and how and what you would like to achieve in the near FUTURE.  The “talking” therapies tend to focus on the past and the exploration of feelings and thoughts relating to particular issues that may still be affecting you today.   If you have a lot of unresolved issues relating to the past then life coaching may not be right for you at this moment in time.
